The Morphosis Jacket from Alpkit is a hybrid top, offering very lightweight, windproof, showerproof insulation. It’s a simple design, which comes in either a full-zip or half-zip version. This simplicity is the real beauty of the Morphosis, and I’ve lost track of how many days my half-zip version has been used to ward off the cold or drizzle on the crag and mountain.

It’s pretty tough for such a lightweight garment, and comes with a waist draw string, lycra cuffs, and a chest pocket. Mine has been my constant companion on the crag, as it easily clips to the back of my harness when not in use, and comes into its own on those chilly belay ledges.

This is not a full-on synthetic or down jacket though – it fills the ‘bit parky on the crag’ niche nicely, offering panelled gridded fleece in just the right places with a good windproof outer. Being of lighter construction than a full-on waterproof, it’s also very breathable.

Retailing at £85, and being available in Black or Reef (blue to me and you), the Morphosis is very easy to fall in love with. Personally, I’d love to see a hooded version too, but that’s not to say that the Morphosis has any faults. I would continue to wear the standard half-zip on warmer days, and a hooded version on colder trips to the hills, if one were available. Food for thought Alpkit! Overall, a really nice piece of kit yet again from our friends at Alpkit.
