Pared y Cefn Hir today with Olivia.
It was Boxing Day 2013 when we first did the ridge walk at Cregennen Lakes (Pared y Cefn Hir), which I blogged about here. It’s hard to believe a year has passed so quickly.
On today’s excursion, it was frosty and bright to start with, with dramatic and photogenic cloud constantly moving towards Cadair Idris but never seeming to get any closer, and swathes of it sitting on the tops of ridges on the other side.
Brilliant sunshine cast cloud shadows over the rugged hills and drew form and texture from their lumpy bumpiness, while the brilliant browns of the bracken and greens of moss, grass and lichen seemed to glow in the sun.
Looking back down on the Mawddach estuary at Barmouth and Fairbourne, it’s amazing how the railway bridge stands out. It’s quite a remarkable structure. Hard to believe that I walked across it just a few weeks…
