Aran Fawddwy is the highest mountain in the UK south of Snowdon (sorry all you fans of Cadair Idris – the widely held belief that Cadair Idris is the 2nd highest mountain in Wales is a myth – there are 16 other peaks in Wales that are higher, including nearby Aran Fawddwy!).

Had a gorgeous spring walk from Blaen-pennant up onto Foel Hafod-fynydd, then down to Creiglyn Dyfi, the source of the Afon Dyfi. My route then took me onto Erw y Ddafad Ddu, then north to Aran Benllyn. Here on the main ridge a thick layer of cloud hung low over the peaks all day, only clearing very slightly as I walked back south, over Erw a Ddafad Ddu, to gain the top of Aran Fawddwy.

A quick descent over Drws Bach and Drosgl and a stroll out through the valley alongside the infant Dyfi brought a fine end to the day’s walk.
